PottingerPhotoDaytonArtInstitutewedding-00_thumb Congratulations to Amanda and Eric on their one year anniversary! Their wedding a year ago was such a beautiful celebration. Their ceremony and reception was at the Dayton Art Institute. I loved that the couple had beer glasses for each guest. The found their seat by looking at the bottle caps. My favorite part of the reception was the end of the night photos with the couple. It was great to see them enjoy a few minutes of time together. To see more of their photos be sure to check out their blog post!

Meet Tina Fitts-Bigham

Category: featured | June 5th, 2016

Thanks to Tina for answering some of my recent questions for her interview. She is a talented speaker and officiant. Her unique ceremonies are well planned and lovely!

When did you first realize you wanted to work with weddings?
In the state I grew up in, there was no such thing as a justice of the peace wedding, we didn’t have that option. Ever since I was old enough, in my pre-teens, to understand that there were certain groups of people that couldn’t be legally married by a ceremony of their choice, I wanted to perform weddings and handfastings to give couples that choice.

What is your training or background?
I was ordained by the Church of Universal Light. Many cultures have beautiful rituals from simple exchange of vows or gifts to over the top with the groom riding in on an elephant. It’s been fun to study them and plan how to pull them off. I will research books, the internet and my network of vendors and friends to find what my clients need.

How long have you been in business? Where are you located?
I have worked in the wedding industry since 2005 as a planner and officiant, located in Northern Kentucky but I’m willing to travel anywhere.

Why did you start your business?
When I was planning my own wedding, I was very frustrated that I couldn’t have the kind of ceremony I wanted. The whole process seemed to consume my life and involved lots of conflicts with family over my choices. As soon as I could, I got my license and set up shop so other people could enjoy their big day with less hair pulled out.

What is your favorite part of a wedding?
The kiss.

Where do you go for inspiration?
It can come from anywhere. A nature walk under a canopy of all leaves, a vintage photo I came across a decade ago, or even a dream.

What are your favorite upcoming trends?
Colored wedding dresses. It is time to move on from white and ivory!

Do you have any new favorite products?
The Broach or Bauble Bouquet

What is one thing you wish brides knew while planning a wedding?
That one doesn’t have to be overwhelmed with everything. Delegate tasks (to responsible wedding party members) and be sure to ask your officiant if they have any recommendations or tips. Most of us have been doing this a while and know all the best resources. Some, like me, even can help you plan.

Anything else you want to share with us?
There isn’t much of any type of ceremony religious or non that I won’t do and my favorite weddings are always on Halloween!

PottingerHarryPotterwedding-00It is no secret that I adore the Cincinnati Nature Center and Krippendorf Lodge. And if you were to ask me where I would host a Harry Potter wedding this would be my top pick. It was such a delight to see all of the unique details the couple created and found. From the invitations to the Bride’s shoes – it was perfectly crafted.  And the bridal party was so much fun. They created their own “award family photo” inspired poses! John and Christy both work with animals so I love that we found little creatures along the way for great photos with the couple! My favorite part of the day? It had to be the hilarious ceremony with the very clever officiant Snape! He heckled the groom and the audience. No one was safe! At the reception it was fun to see the tables each with a different centerpiece design. Overall the day was wonderful and magical! Congrats to Christy and John!
