Congratulations Kim and Dan, a Michigan wedding
At my brother’s wedding I remember my aunt Sharon telling me that my cousin Kim has been following my blog. And she knew when she got married she wanted me to photograph her wedding! It is quite an honor to have someone follow our blog for years. It’s a great way to keep up with what I am up to and to see more of our recent work. When Kim became engaged I was so happy for her and I was so excited to help her with the planning process. It has been an honor to be her photographer and friend.
Driving through the town of Crystal Falls Michigan brought back so many memories. Jokes about Yoopers (upper peninsula or U.P.) came to mind as we drove past lines of pine trees. One of my favorite things about photographing out of state is that there are so many neat new places to discover. My Aunt Sharon sent me photos of the Paint River Boardwalk and when we scoped out the spot the morning of the wedding I knew it would be perfect for photos. Seeing Kim as a beautiful bride that morning made me smile. I had to fight back the tears because I knew once they started we would all be a blubbering mess! It was great to see her friends supporting her and that my sister and her are still cuz buds!
After their beautiful ceremony I kept watching the clouds. We had a chance of rain and even though we had a cute umbrella and some teal crocs I was worried by a few raindrops. When it was time to head over to the boardwalk area the sun actually came out and we had the perfect weather for photos! Dan and Kim made sure there was plenty of time for photos and I am so thankful for that. It was great to let the bridal party have fun and relax. These are some of my favorite photos of the couple because they had a chance to enjoy being together.
As we headed toward the reception we had a few more raindrops and dark clouds – I think we finished just in time! One of the groomsmen suggested photos on top of the mountain by the reception site. What a great idea. As we drove toward the top I remember seeing the perfect spot for photos – to me it said Michigan! So on the way back down we stopped at the spot and took our time enjoying the view. There was also a ski lift so we had to do some photos on that too (thanks for being a great sport Kim – I am sorry there wasn’t a seat cushion)!
At the reception we were ready to get the celebration started! The popcorn bar had to be one of my favorite new ideas. There were so many flavors to choose from and the bags said “So glad he popped the question,” how cute! The couple brought their favorite popcorn from their hometown. The reception was a lot of fun and full of great dancing music including a polka. (It’s a tradition in my family and it’s always a fun dance.) My favorite part of the night was watching my uncle dance with the bride. I love how happy they both were!
To Kim and Dan, we wish you two all the very best. Thank you for choosing us to document your wonderful day. Kim it is your turn to be on the blog –we hope you enjoy this sneak peek! To their friends and family – thank you for being so wonderful! From helping with the church bows to carrying the dress – you all made the day go so smoothly! We can’t thank you enough.
