Grand Imaging Award Finalist and Bronze Medalist
Being a geek and someone who loves to research, I have always loved learning more about photography. There is the technical side, the business/marketing side and artistry. As a creative the technical side isn’t always the most fun but it helps to learn it because it is important. In 2006 I became a member of Professional Photographers of America. The local affiliate chapters are often my favorite way to see the business side from many wonderful speakers. Imaging USA is the annual large convention and was hosted in Atlanta this year. Although I have competed at the local and regional level this was my first year competing at their International Print Competition. So the first day the trade show opened I headed to see my images on display. All four of the images received a merit (which was a big goal) meaning I received the bronze recognition. My images were one wedding image, a portrait image and two event (wedding) albums. It was so fun to see my photos come up on the screen! On the last evening there was a big award ceremony full of industry peers for the The Grand Imaging Awards (GIA’s). The 100 finalists’ images were recognized as being the best of the 2018 PPA International Photographic Competition. The finalists, 10 each in 10 categories, were selected from 5,200 entries judged by a panel of 32 jurors. It was an honor to stand on the stage for having one of the top 10 event albums in the competition. A big thank you to our couples for inspiring me to create unique images and allowing me to submit. The biggest reward is always seeing the smiles from our couples as they relive their day, but being recognized by our industry’s top photographers and peers is also really great!
