Happy Derby Day! Juleps and Jockeys Event

This time of year I always get a little homesick for where I grew up.  When the local university’s band plays My Old Kentucky Home my state pride swells and I tend to get a little teary. The beautiful ladies in fancy hats make for excellent people watching. And the parade of strong horses and tiny jockeys is exciting. After much fanfare, there is this two minutes of time that makes your heart race faster and you can’t help but hope your horse will be the first across the finish line. The Kentucky Derby is a day for nostalgia and fun! Louisville Tourism hosted Juleps and Jockeys at The Pinecroft at Crosley Estate. The classic Mint Julep and Oaks Lily cocktails were sponsored by Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. Funky’s provided southern-inspired hors d’oeuvres and the live bluegrass was by Relic Bluegrass. There were different stations to get creative. The fascinator and fedora hat-making tables with the Kentucky Derby Museum team were a big hit. Clayton and Crume had a leather coaster-making area. And sugar cookies were decorated to look like jockey silks. Even Steve Buttleman the official bugler was there for photos!
